A Look at Two Presidents: Lincoln and Obama
A Conversation with Drs. Ronald Walters and Les Payne
moderated by
Mel Hardy of Millennium Arts Salon
Sunday, April 26, 4-5:30 pm at the Jack Morton Auditorium,
George Washington University 805 21st Street, NW
Washington, DC 20006
Our featured salon guests will discuss the legacy of Lincoln and the ascendancy of Obama. Dr. Walters is Director of the African American Leadership Center at University of Maryland and is most appropriately referred to as the Dean of the political analysts of the civil rights movement. Mr. Les Payne is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, and foremost authority on the life and impact of Malcolm X, and founding member of the National Association of Black Journalists. While these cameo sketches do little justice to the immense bodies of work represented by each of our salonists for the afternoon, you will come away from this event transformed by the impact that each of these giants have made to modern American life. Each salon speaker brings deep insights about both Presidents, resulting from long periods of review and study. Their respective knowledge and dynamic interchange promises to inspire, inform and entertain.
This event is jointly sponsored by the Luther W. Brady Art Gallery at George Washington University and Millennium Arts Salon, presented in cooperation with DC Cultural Tourism's celebration of the Lincoln Bicentennial.
Our two Salonists are immense talents, and you can hear examples of their great elocution and intellect in the following audio clips:

Millennium Arts Salon
Millennium Arts Salon, founded in 1999, is dedicated to the advance of cultural literacy through the arts and cultural programming. Now in its tenth year, MAS continues to deliver artistic and cultural perspective from the most prominent practitioners and actors in the creative, performing, and literary arts to an ever expanding audience in the mid-Atlantic corridor from Boston to Washington. Most importantly, MAS documents each of its "Salons" through video taping, providing a recordation of primary research in artistic and cultural content to be made available to generations of students, researchers, and appreciators of cultural and artistic development for generations to come.
